Who it is for.
For anyone who teaches, coaches or creates and gets asked about working with them: in DMs, comments, WhatsApp, email, on the phone, or by a parent at the door.
If some of those people asked how much and then went quiet, this is one evening spent finding out where they stopped. You find it in your own messages, so the answer is yours the same night, whether anyone replies or not.
The evening, step by step.
- 015 minutes
Write down your guess first.
How many asked, how many went ahead, and why you think the rest didn’t.
- 02
Find everyone who asked in the last 90 days.
Read only your side of each conversation. Five questions a thread: did I answer in time, did I say the price, did I give a way to pay or book, did I give a next step or a date, and who had the last word?
- 03
Write your sentence.
The tally sheet marks where each conversation first fell short and counts them. You write one sentence: what was missing most, the count, and what it looks like.
- 04
Send each person one message.
By hand, in the channel they used, with whatever was missing for them.
Seven days later, in 15 minutes, you add any replies and confirm the sentence.
You finish with one sentence.
One sentence with the count behind it. Here’s an illustrative one.
“PRICE, 11 of 21. Parents ask on WhatsApp, I reply ‘call me and we’ll discuss’, and most of them never call. From Monday the first reply says the price.”
Rana had guessed that parents found her too expensive. In 14 of her 21 conversations, the parent never got a number from her to find expensive.
What’s inside.
- The guide (PDF)
- The steps, where to look on each app (Instagram requests, archived WhatsApp chats, your call log, your diary for the people who asked in person), worked examples, four message structures to adapt, and what to send when people reply: how much, is it for me, can I start later, can I pay in parts, can you do it cheaper, “not now” and “no”.
- The tally sheet (Excel file)
- Opens in Excel, Numbers or Google Sheets. One row per enquiry. It works out where each conversation first fell short and shows your result on the Summary tab. Paper works too.
- A last page for every result
- It says what the next problem is and how to do it yourself.
How long it takes.
Plan for about three quiet hours if you have 20 to 30 enquiries, plus 15 minutes a week later. More enquiries take longer.
If the evening runs out, stop once your sentence is written and send the messages tomorrow.
Who it won’t suit.
You’ve had fewer than five enquiries in the last 90 days.
There isn’t an evening’s worth yet, and the guide says so. If you buy it and find fewer than five, email us for the refund.
You’re after more enquiries.
This works with the people who already asked you. How many people ask is a separate problem, and this guide leaves it alone.
You’d like to message everyone at once.
Every message here is written and sent by you, one person at a time, in their own chat.
It works best with 20 or more enquiries. With 5 to 9 you get a leaner result, which is still worth acting on.
The names stay with you.
Your list lives on your sheet. The guide never asks you to send us anyone’s details or messages.
A note from me.
When someone asks how much and then goes quiet, it’s easy to decide they weren’t serious. Some of them weren’t. Sometimes, though, the reason is sitting right there in the thread, in the last message from your side.
This is the evening I’d spend with you if I could sit next to you with your phone on the table. By the end of it you’ll know where your enquiries stop, and you’ll know it from your own messages.
